The Harpers
A loose, secretive network of spies, agents, and informers dedicated to preserving balance, opposing tyranny, and quietly steering the Sword Coast away from disaster.
In Brief
The Harpers are not a guild. They are not an army. They are a network — small cells of trusted agents, scattered across Faerûn, who share information, favors, and the occasional knife in the dark. They are united by an oath: to stand against tyranny, support the weak, and preserve the balance of magic and power in the world.
Harpers tend to operate alone or in pairs. They keep their affiliation quiet. They communicate through tokens, songs, and the occasional silver harp pin pinned to the inside of a cloak.
They are not always good — some Harpers are ruthless. But they are, by and large, on the side of the small against the large, the many against the few, the freed against the chained.
Reputation
The Harpers are widely respected by adventurers, especially those who travel between cities and rely on local information. They are quietly distrusted by larger political organizations who consider them meddlesome — the Zhentarim particularly so.
A traveler who shows discretion and good judgment may, after long acquaintance, discover that someone they have been speaking with is a Harper. Harpers do not advertise. They notice.
