Neverwinter Wood
The vast ancient forest sprawling north and northeast of Neverwinter and east of Phandalin. Beautiful, dangerous, ancient. Home to druids, fey creatures, and darker things.
The Neverwinter Wood covers a huge stretch of the western Sword Coast interior. It is old — older than most of the human settlements at its edge. Travelers say no two people who go in come out by the same path.
Sometimes referred to in older texts as “the Neverwinter Wood” or simply “the Wood.” The Triboar Trail skirts its southern edge.
Known features within or beyond the Wood:
- Cragmaw Castle — somewhere deep in the woods, current stronghold of the Cragmaw goblin tribe.
- The ruined village of Thundertree — north of the wood, destroyed long ago by the eruption of Mount Hotenow.
- Old druid circles and standing stones — most known only to the druids who still walk among them.
