Sister Garaele — Cleric of Tymora

Earnest young elf, acolyte of Tymora at the Shrine of Luck in Phandalin.

At a Glance

  • Race / Class: Elf, Cleric of Tymora (Lady Luck).
  • Where to find her: The Shrine of Luck on the south side of Phandalin — a small stone shrine with a Tymora coin medallion above the door.
  • Disposition: Warm, bright, slightly nervous when first met. Becomes much steadier when she trusts you.
  • Currently: Recovering from wounds. She left town a tenday ago and came back bloodied. She does not talk about it.

Personality

Garaele is in her sixties (young, for an elf) and has the slightly raw energy of someone who has not yet decided what kind of person they will be. She believes — fervently and without irony — in luck. Not as chance, but as a principle: that the universe arranges itself in favor of those brave enough to push it.

She is friendly to strangers and quick to bless a coin or a weapon at the shrine (“for the next hard moment, may it tilt your way”). She is not a pushover. When her trust is earned, she is fierce.

What She Will Share

  • She knows of the Redbrands and despises them in the quiet, principled way a cleric of Tymora is allowed to despise anything. She has heard the name Glasstaff but does not know who he really is.
  • She keeps a friendly ear out for travelers passing through Phandalin and remembers names and faces unusually well.
  • She knows the banshee Agatha of Conyberry is dangerous, vain, and territorial — and that anyone foolish enough to seek her out should bring the right gift and the right manners.

Garaele will offer the party the chance to do something for her.

Readaloud

“There is a banshee at Conyberry. Her name is Agatha. She is old, and she is vain, and she once — once, long ago — answered a question for a wizard who knew how to ask. I would very much like her to answer one more.”

“I cannot go back myself. She… does not want to see me again. But she might see you. If you take her a gift — a silver comb, her hair was famous in life — and you treat her as a queen would expect to be treated, she may answer. One question. No more.”

The question to ask: “Where is the spellbook of Bowgentle?” The party must commit Garaele’s exact phrasing to memory.

The gift: A silver comb. Garaele provides one — a delicate filigree piece worth roughly 25gp.

Reward on return: A Potion of Healing from her shrine reserves, 25gp, and her personal thanks.
